Programs

Harnett Health Residency comprises of 3 programs; Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Transitional Year.

Each program includes faculty board certified physicians as well as house staff, which helps to deepen the understanding of their specialty. See below to learn more about programs, research, patient care and medical education.

Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine program is a leader in rural patient care, medical education, and research through our partnership with Campbell University School of Medicine. CUSOM’s large academic system combined with Harnett Health’s rural medicine experience produces a one-of-a-kind residency training experience.

Our program size allows us to prepare each resident for their future goals and successes with fellowship geared elective choices, hospitalist experiences, and ambulatory outpatient exposures. We take pride in allowing each resident to determine their career path and to utilize available opportunities to expand their medical training based on their career needs.

Harnett Health offers a rather unique training opportunity. The Internal Medicine resident clinic has adult patients of all ages, with roughly equal proportions of young patients, middle aged patients, and older patients. Resident primary care physicians become skilled in outpatient medicine – from preventative medicine appointments to chronic care management appointments to acute illness appointments. Both of Harnett Health’s hospitals offer the unique experience of open ICUs, which allow residents to practice both critical care medicine and general hospital medicine during their inpatient rotations. When combined with closed ICU rotations at Cape Fear Valley, our residents graduate quite facile caring for patients of all acuities.

Family Medicine

The Family Medicine program strives to provide quality care for our patients through continuity clinics and community outreach. Focus is on patient satisfaction, ongoing research, education and development of faculty and residents.

Transitional Year

Harnett Health Transitional Year provides opportunities for interns to gain medical education in a wide variety of interest.
