Junior Volunteers

Junior Volunteer Program
Our Junior Volunteer Program allows students of ages 14-18 to contribute in meaningful ways to the patients and staff of Harnett Health while learning about health care, volunteerism, and good work habits.

Who can be a Junior Volunteer?

Students between the ages of 14-18 can apply for the Junior Volunteer program. We look for teens that are outgoing and have a desire to gain knowledge in the working environment. We select the applicants based on their classroom performance, conduct, recommendation forms, and personal essay.

How do I become a Junior Volunteer?

You can contact our Volunteer Service Coordinator, Amanda Faircloth, to obtain a Junior Volunteer application packet. They are available to send out each spring. All applicants must complete the application, provide an essay, and have two recommendation forms completed in addition to the track selection form.  Applications are also sent out to surrounding schools, so please check to see if your guidance counselor has any on hand.

How will I know if I am accepted into the program?

Once applications have been reviewed, all applicants will receive a letter notifying them of their acceptance. Due to space limitations of our program, not all applicants will be selected.

What can I expect during my volunteer experience?

Those selected will be required to attend a meeting with Volunteer Services to complete required paperwork and orientation.  Volunteers will be provided a uniform t-shirt to use while working.  Additional shirts may be purchased for $7 each, during the scheduled Orientation.  Appropriate attire is expected to be worn by the volunteer at all times.  Volunteers will perform non-clinical duties as assigned by the department and will have the benefit of gaining valuable experience of performing in a health care setting.

When will I be volunteering?

Junior Volunteer shifts will vary by department, but typically run between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Each Junior Volunteer will be placed on a three-week schedule and assigned up to two departments. To ensure a beneficial experience, it is recommended that the Junior Volunteer select the Track that fits their best availability.  If selected, the volunteer is expected to be present each day as determined by their departments.
