Dunn, NC — The Harnett Health Breast Care Center in Dunn is excited to announce that it has recently installed a new Hologic Selenia 3D Mammography Imaging Machine. This 3D Mammography Imaging Machine is equipped SmartCurve technology which is specifically designed to increase patient comfort.
3D Mammography exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers, and also help decrease the number of women asked to return for additional testing.(1-7) In conventional 2D Mammography, overlapping tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to unnecessary callbacks. A 3D method of imaging can greatly reduce the tissue overlap effect.
This latest installation is part of the Harnett Health Breast Care Center’s ongoing commitment to superior breast cancer detection and has the potential to increase screening volume and compliance for the countless women who have reported avoiding regular mammograms due in large part to the fear of discomfort associated with breast compression.
3D Mammography with SmartCurve technology is designed to detect more invasive cancers, reduce false positives, and is FDA approved as superior to conventional 2D mammography for all women, including those with dense breasts, all while improving the screening experience.

The SmartCurve system features a proprietary curved surface that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast to reduce pinching and allow better distribution of force over the entire breast.
