Hospital Portal

ABOUT THE PATIENT PORTAL

What is the patient portal?

The patient portal is a secure, confidential and easy to use website that gives patients 24-hour access to their personal health information from anywhere that has an internet connection.  The portal uses encryption technology to deliver secure communication between patients and providers. Patients will access the portal using a secure username and password. The patient portal is administered and maintained by MEDITECH on behalf of Harnett Health.  The portal meets the Stage 2 Meaningful Use objectives required by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act providing patients the ability to view their health information online.

Is the portal secure?

Your security is important to us, and we are committed to protecting your privacy. Your name and email address will be treated with the same care and privacy given to your health records. We use techniques to encrypt, safeguard, and secure your personal information. For more information, please review the Harnett Health Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP).

What information can I access through the portal?

You will be able to view your visit history, lab results, medical imaging reports, and/or physician reports, completed June 1, 2013 or later.

How do I sign up for the patient portal?

EMERGENCY & INPATIENTS:  During registration at the hospital, you were asked to provide a valid email address. If you provided one at that time, you would have received an email with a link to the login screen to complete enrollment. Once you have completed enrollment, you may access the portal through the Existing Users button.

OUTPATIENTS:  If you provided a valid email upon registration, you will need to use the New Users button above to self-enroll.

If you did NOT provide an email address during registration, you will need to come into the Health Information Management (HIM) department at either Betsy Johnson or Central Harnett hospital to provide this information. Please call (910) 892-1000 ext 4129 for more information.

Note:  During enrollment, you will need your Medical Record number (begins with an “M”) to complete this process. Your medical record number is available on your patient wrist band and/or any discharge paperwork you received from the hospital. You will not be able to obtain this information via telephone.  You will need to come into the HIM department at either hospital (with a photo ID) to request this information

How will Harnett Health use my email?

You will receive communication from the portal via email regarding various patient activities such as password resets, notifications of activity on your account, etc.  Your name and email address will be treated with the same care and privacy given to your health records and will never be sold or leased by Harnett Health or MEDITECH.

Is the patient portal open to Healthcare proxies?

At this time, anyone designated as Healthcare Power of Attorney (HPOA) may come into the HIM department at either Betsy Johnson or Central Harnett hospital to request access to the patient’s portal they are representing. This access cannot be granted at time of registration. The HPOA must provide copies of their legal documentation to the HIM department

Can my spouse and I share the same email address?

Yes, the portal will allow an email address to be shared.  The patient is defined by their medical record number, and each individual will have their own logon ID/password.  However, please note that communication (ex: notification emails, etc.) from the portal does not identify the patient, therefore both patients would need to log in to their portal to identify whom the notification was meant for.

Will children have access to the portal?

At this time, only those over age 18 will have access to the patient portal. Parents of individuals who are under 18 must come into the HIM department at Betsy Johnson or Central Harnett hospital to obtain copies of their minor child’s records.

Can I send my information to another physician or hospital?

Yes. In the portal, there is an option to send your Health Summary to a provider’s eHealth address.  This is a special, secure way to send the health information electronically. You will have to obtain the eHealth address from the physician’s office or hospital you wish to send the information.  Our hospital will not have this information.

Who do I contact if I have questions about using the portal?

Portal assistance is offered Monday-Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, excluding holidays.  Please contact 910-892-1000 ext. 4129 for additional information/assistance.

What if I forget my username and/or password?

Please visit the logon page of the portal and select the link (Forgot Logon ID/Forgot Password) that is applicable to you, and follow the screen prompts.

Why can’t I view a document?

Your internet browser must be updated. If you are using Internet Explorer, your version must be IE 10 or higher. If you are using other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Mozilla, etc.), please make sure you have accepted their updates. If the document is in Adobe (PDF) format, then you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your system and/or apply any Adobe updates.  If you are still having problems, verify that JavaScript is enabled in your computer. JavaScript is required to display messages and it may not be enabled in your browser. If you continue to have issues, please contact 910-892-1000 ext.4129 for additional assistance.

Why can’t I see results for procedures done?

You will only be able to view records for visits that occurred on or after June 1, 2013. The records for visits prior to this date are not available on the Portal. You may request copies of these records from the HIM department at either Betsy Johnson or Central Harnett hospital.
